The Nigerian qualifier for the 2007 World Golfers Championship has been named MTN World Golfers Nigerian Championship as a result of MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, the leading mobile telecommunications company in Nigeria taking over as the Title Sponsors.

About the 2007 Tournament

The MTN World Golfers Nigeria Championship 2007 ended on September 9, 2007 with the last day of the National Final taking place at the breathtaking Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo.

The National Final would be held from September 7 to 9, 2007. Other Regional qualifiers had been held with 60 qualifiers preparing for the finals.

The National Final of qualifying series of the World Golfers Nigeria Championship was held on September 9 and 10, 2006 as a 36 holes event at the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938, Golf Section.

One hundred and sixty three (163) players representing qualifiers from the regional play-offs and wild card entries filled the 18-hole green course of Ikoyi Club.

The final, presented by LM Ericsson and MTN, had the Honourable Minister of Sports and Social Development, Dr. Bala Bawa Ka'oje, as the special guest of honour.

Twenty- five (25) trophies were on parade during the finals.

The first three players in each handicap category were awarded trophies. There were also consolation prizes for longest drives and nearest to the pins on both days.

Mr. Connie Guilfoyle emerged as the player with the best net scores over two days.

The highlight of the event was the successful defending of her crown by Mrs. Lucy Onoaghagbe of Benin Golf Club.

WGC Nigeria 2005

The National qualifier was held at the Ikoyi Club 1938, Golf Section on the 10th and 11th September.
